Wynn Las Vegas Sued After Gambler Dies While Playing the Slots
The family of a woman who suffered from a tragic collapse while engaging in a session at a Wynn Las Vegas slot machine, subsequently leading to her demise, is pursuing legal action against the casino resort.
The lawsuit alleges that the establishment failed to “reasonably assess” her urgent need for medical assistance.
The incident unfolded on February 13 during Wynn’s Super Bowl viewing party, where 74-year-old Billie Sakkab collapsed while playing slots in solitary, as detailed in the suit recently obtained and initially reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The legal claim contends that Billie Sakkab experienced a cardiac arrest due to the casino’s staff not promptly deploying an available portable automated external defibrillator.
Filed on December 5 in Clark County District Court by Christian Morris Trial Attorneys, the lawsuit is on behalf of Sakkab’s widower, Nabil Y. Sakkab Sr., and three other surviving family members.
The legal action against the megaresort levels charges of negligence, negligent hiring, training, retention and supervision, negligent security, wrongful death and gross negligence, per the media outlet.
Seeking special damages exceeding $15,000, unspecified punitive damages, interest and attorneys’ fees, the suit asserts that despite Billie Sakkab being unconscious, numerous Wynn employees on the casino floor and in the video surveillance room failed to reasonably assess her need for emergency medical attention.
Furthermore, the lawsuit contends that Wynn Las Vegas was cognizant or should have been aware of the heightened presence of a large number of guests during the event and on the casino floor.
Due to this anticipated surge in guests, the resort, as per the legal claim, should have recognized that the likelihood of an incident involving a medical emergency was considerably higher.
As per the legal filing, Wynn personnel delayed contacting 911 for emergency medical services until 5:54 PM, prompting a six-minute response from the Clark County Fire Department and a nine-minute response from a Medic West ambulance.
Tragically, despite these efforts, Billie Sakkab was pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:47 PM. The specific time at which Sakkab lost consciousness was not disclosed in the R-J report.
In the obituary released in February 2022, Billie Sakkab was portrayed as a profoundly dedicated wife, mother to two children and grandmother to three. She and her husband, married for 51 years, first crossed paths during their time at Texas Christian University.
Described as the family’s unwavering pillar, the obituary emphasized that Billie was the go-to person for assistance and encouragement, guided consistently by the loftiest moral standards.
