West Virginia Issues New Online Casino Gaming Supplier Licenses
During a monthly meeting held last week, the West Virginia Lottery Commission granted sports wagering and online casino gaming supplier licenses to two companies: Xpoint Services and Blackhawk Network.
These two brands are anticipated to make significant contributions to the gaming industry in West Virginia.
Xpoint Services has obtained an online casino gaming supplier license, suggesting a strong possibility that West Virginia’s online casinos will adopt its platform.
Specializing in geolocation services, Xpoint Services excels in swiftly verifying locations, connections, and device information.
Notable features of their service, as outlined on their website, include the ability to gather diverse data points from WiFi, GPS, IP, and Cellular sources to accurately determine a player’s true location.
Furthermore, their platform incorporates fraud and risk detection mechanisms to combat issues like remote software, VPNs, and other spoofing technologies.
This results in precise location accuracy, helping prevent fraudulent activities and identifying suspicious behavior. Xpoint Services also accommodates browser-based requirements and provides an additional desktop application for enhanced user experience.
It’s worth noting that Xpoint Services has obtained a certificate to operate in the Mountain State following a legal dispute with another geolocation company, GeoComply, which was resolved earlier this year.
In the lawsuit, GeoComply accused Xpoint Services of patent infringement. A 43-page court order ultimately dismissed the case. The court has ruled in favor of Xpoint by granting their motion to dismiss on the grounds of ineligibility under 35 U.S.C. § 101.
Additionally, according to the court, Xpoint’s motion to dismiss, pertaining to the accusation of infringement of claim 10 of the ‘805 patent as presented in Count II of the complaint, has also been granted.
Blackhawk Network has received approval from the West Virginia Lottery to provide its services for online casinos and sports betting in the state.
As a prominent player in branded payment technology, Blackhawk Network is set to offer West Virginia players the convenience of depositing and withdrawing funds for their sports wagering and online casino activities.
This will be made possible through the use of prepaid cards, enhancing the flexibility and ease of financial transactions for gaming enthusiasts.
While the specific details of how Blackhawk Network and Xpoint Services will be integrated into the state’s gaming landscape remain uncertain, it’s evident that the West Virginia Lottery is embracing the introduction of new technology to elevate the gaming experience in the region.
