Vegas Police Arrests 2 for Robbing Man Who Won $125K in Blackjack
Two women from Las Vegas were arrested on Thursday for stealing $125,000 in blackjack winnings and a Rolex watch from a man while intoxicated in his guest room at Caesars Palace.
Marriah Vanderwaal, 32, and Coriana Singleston, 29, face charges of grand theft and other charges after the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) used hotel surveillance footage to identify Vanderwaal by a tattoo and Singleston by photos from previous arrests, according to an LVMPD arrest report.
Just before midnight on Thursday, a man reported to the police that he was missing $125,000 in cash he had won while playing blackjack at Caesars and a Rolex watch valued at $20,000 after two women accompanied him to his hotel room around 4 AM that day.
Detectives from the vice squad have been assigned to investigate as the case appears related to prostitution.
The man told the police that he started playing blackjack around 8 PM the previous night and remained at the same table until around 4 AM when he collected his winnings.
At some point, he met the two women, but he couldn’t remember inviting them to his hotel room due to his intoxication.
According to the police, when he woke up around 9 AM, he discovered that his winnings and his watch were gone, and he didn’t recall much of what had happened after meeting the two women, the police said.
In the security camera footage provided by Caesars, two women were seen with the man by the guest room elevator at 4:04 AM, entering his room with him at 4:09 AM, leaving the room at 4:25 AM, and heading to the valet parking at the Bellagio hotel, where they got into a black SUV and returned to Caesars.
The Mercedes met a white BMW in the parking lot in Caesars’ security footage. Vanderwaal, the driver of the Mercedes, had a leopard tattoo on her arm, which helped identify her from arrest records, according to the police.
The two vehicles exited onto Las Vegas Boulevard, and the BMW headed to the Mirage hotel parking lot, where security personnel took a photo of its Louisiana license plate.
The photos taken of the driver at Caesars matched the images of Singleton taken during previous arrests, according to the police.
At one point, Singleston was captured by a surveillance camera taking a photo of a stack of bills with her cell phone, the police said.
Both vehicles were eventually apprehended at their residences in southern Las Vegas, near Interstate 15.
Both Vanderwaal and Singleton, who have a lengthy history of arrests, face charges of grand theft, residential burglary and conspiracy to commit grand theft. According to court records, state control hearings are scheduled for October 30 at the Justice Court.
