Tropicana Las Vegas, Uber Sued by Watch Dealer Over 2021 Theft
A wristwatch distributor who attended the International Watch and Jewelry Guild expo and allegedly suffered a brutal attack resulting in the theft of $1 million worth of possessions outside Tropicana Las Vegas has filed a lawsuit.
The incident occurred on October 19, 2021, and the victim, Raimond Irimescu, brought the lawsuit to the District Court against multiple defendants, including Uber, an Uber driver (R.S.), an Uber subsidiary (Raiser LLC), Tropicana Las Vegas and several unnamed parties.
In a lawsuit filed by Raimond Irimescu’s Las Vegas attorneys, Joshua Berrett and David Finegold, it is alleged that the Tropicana, due to “recklessness and carelessness,” did not provide a safe environment for the plaintiff.
The lawsuit further contends that the Tropicana failed to implement security measures and maintain adequate security staffing during the watch and jewellery expo. Spokespersons representing Bally’s Corp., the owner of the Tropicana and Uber, were not available for comment.
The lawsuit further alleges that Raiser and Uber neglected their duty to create a safe environment, identify potential risks, conduct thorough driver background checks and provide proper training.
The incident involved Irimescu requesting an Uber after attending the expo. While inside the vehicle, two other cars, a grey SUV and a white minivan, allegedly blocked the Uber car.
Four masked individuals broke the car’s windows, brutally assaulted Irimescu, and stole his backpack and two pieces of luggage, collectively valued at $1 million.
Irimescu’s legal claim emphasizes the attack’s impact on his ability to work, resulting in financial losses and medical expenses.
