Pennsylvania’s Online Slot Market Is Now Worth Over $5 Billion
The Pennsylvania iGaming industry relies heavily on slots to drive the majority of its monthly revenue. In May, the industry earned $169.3 million from slot games, pushing the lifetime revenue from slots to $5 billion.
Slots contribute significantly more to Pennsylvania’s online casino revenue than other games like table games and poker, accounting for 76.7% of online casino revenue in 2024. Many operators offer hundreds or even thousands of slot titles, regularly adding new ones, including games themed around popular TV shows and movies.
Pennsylvania is among the seven states that provide legal online casinos, and slot games are the primary revenue driver. In May, online casino operators in Pennsylvania generated $216.5 million, marking the second-best month ever for the state.
Pennsylvania’s total lifetime revenue from online casinos is nearly $6.9 billion and is expected to surpass $7 billion in June, with slots contributing $5.1 billion. Slots make up 74.7% of all online casino revenue in Pennsylvania, overshadowing other verticals like live dealer games and poker.
The variety and number of slots have significantly increased, with platforms now offering hundreds to thousands of titles. For example, Mohegan, Pennsylvania launched 432 titles in April.
Top online casinos by slot count include DraftKings with 2,490 slots, Borgata with 2,019, BetRivers and PlaySugarHouse with 1,050 each, and Golden Nugget with 990. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) does not break down revenue by operator, making it difficult to see exact revenue contributions by each casino.
DraftKings had a record-breaking month in February with $59 million in revenue. Since February, nearly 4,000 new slots have been added across Pennsylvania’s online casinos, increasing the total number of slots from nearly 9,600 to nearly 13,500 by June.
DraftKings significantly increased its slot offerings from 817 in February to 2,490, the largest increase among online casinos in the state. Borgata and Golden Nugget added 297 and 246 slots, respectively, while BetRivers and PlaySugarHouse each added 213 slots since February.
The increase in slot offerings has directly contributed to the growth in online casino revenue over the past several months.
Online casinos offer a wide range of slot themes, including sports, holidays, animals, tropical islands, and famous TV shows and movies, often with state-of-the-art graphics.
BetMGM partnered with Inspired Entertainment in April 2023 to launch the Buffalo Wild Wings slot and later released slots themed around The Godfather, Wheel of Fortune, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and Cheers.
BetMGM also offers slots themed around popular TV shows and movies such as Ted, Peaky Blinders, Cats, Beavis and Butt-Head, The Goonies, Hell’s Kitchen, and Hercules.
The variety and creativity in slot offerings ensure that players have a wide selection and continue to be engaged, with operators constantly working to improve and expand their offerings.
