Pennsylvania’s Hollywood Casino Hit With $50K Fine Over Underage Gambling
Hollywood Casino York incurred a $50,000 fine from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board due to three separate incidents in which individuals below the age of 21 not only accessed the gaming floor but also engaged in gambling activities.
The board officially sanctioned the fine during its meeting on February 21, following a presentation by the Office of Enforcement Counsel.
The documented instances, spanning 2021 and 2022, form the basis of the Gaming Control Board’s scrutiny. The initial violation involved a 19-year-old individual who confessed to utilizing a counterfeit driver’s license to access and gamble on three distinct occasions.
The initial occurrence transpired on December 23, 2021, during which the individual engaged in gambling for 27 minutes, resulting in a $170 loss.
In the second incident on December 4, 2021, a 20-year-old woman with a military ID was allowed onto the gaming floor by security despite being underage. She spent around 32 minutes playing slot machines and gaming tables before an employee discovered her age during a chip purchase, leading to her and her companions being escorted out.
The third violation occurred on June 3, 2022, when a 20-year-old man used a fake ID to access the gaming floor. Despite the ID being flagged, the security officer permitted entry. An assistant security manager later identified the mistake, but not before the underage individual was served alcohol and received a gambling wristband.
Casino personnel escorted him out, and he was cited by Springettsbury Township Police for underage possession of alcohol. Following the incident, the individual received a ban from gambling at Hollywood Casino York until his 22nd birthday in December 2023.
Despite the prohibition, he managed to gamble on December 26, 2022, and January 2, 2023. On April 23, 2023, he was ejected from the casino before having the opportunity to gamble.
Additionally, it was discovered that the underage individual had accessed the casino floor and engaged in gambling three times in 2021: on August 14, 15, and October 2.
As a consequence of the violations, Hollywood Casino York also had to pay the Gaming Control Board $2,500 to cover the costs associated with the investigation. The York Dispatch reached out to Hollywood Casino York for comment, but no immediate response was received.
