Pennsylvania on Track to Break $4B Mark in Online Slots by Year’s End
Thanks to Pennsylvania’s record-breaking September with $187.3 million in online casino revenue, the state is edging closer to another milestone. If October performs well, online slot revenue could surpass $4 billion in total earnings for 2023.
While table games, especially live dealer options, still hold their place, online slots are the primary revenue generator for the Keystone State. Pennsylvania’s online casinos consistently introduce new slot games and features.
The achievement of $4 billion in lifetime revenue for PA online casinos is on the horizon. In September, Pennsylvania’s online casinos made history by generating $187.3 million in revenue, surpassing the previous record of $181.5 million set in March.
This marked the first time that online slots in Pennsylvania exceeded $140 million in a single month, contributing $142.6 million to the total.
With this record-breaking performance, lifetime slot revenue now stands at $3.9 billion. To reach the $4 billion milestone, Pennsylvania’s online casinos need to achieve $110.7 million in slot revenue for October.
Throughout 2023, the state has maintained an average of $128.4 million in monthly slot earnings. It has not fallen below $110 million since September 2022.
In this current year alone, online slot revenue has already exceeded $1 billion, with August’s total reaching $132.2 million. This accounts for 74.2% of the total online casino revenue in 2023.
Pennsylvania’s online slots market is showing no signs of slowing down, with continuous growth in both revenue and offerings.
During the fiscal year 2022/2023, online slots saw a remarkable 31% increase from the previous year, generating $1.08 billion in revenue.
Projections indicate that Pennsylvania’s online slots are on track to generate approximately $1.5 billion in revenue in the calendar year 2023, surpassing the record set during the 12-month period of fiscal year 2022/2023 when online slots earned $1.2 billion.
Several factors contribute to this ongoing growth. Pennsylvania boasts a vast selection of over 8,000 slot games available across 20 different platforms. Leading the way are Borgata Casino PA and BetMGM Casino PA, each offering nearly 2,500 slots combined.
BetMGM recently formed a partnership with Atlantic Digital to introduce “The Godfather” slot, along with other titles inspired by popular TV shows and movies in the future. This partnership opens the door to the possibility of even more TV and movie-themed slots being added.
BetMGM has also introduced a unique restaurant-themed slot, Buffalo Wild Wings, creating another avenue to connect a well-known brand with Pennsylvania players.
This year, Pennsylvania welcomed three new platforms. These include the Tropicana Casino PA in April, the Bally Casino PA in June and the Golden Nugget Casino PA in August.
All three operators have significantly contributed to the market’s success. Harrah’s Philadelphia, which oversees the Tropicana and Caesars Casino PA, set a new record with $7.5 million in revenue in September.
The Golden Nugget had an impressive debut, earning $6.4 million in September, securing the sixth position among Pennsylvania licenses.
Bally’s recorded $2.2 million in September, outperforming Unibet Casino PA.
The Pennsylvania market demonstrates that the more games and platforms available, the more players are drawn to participate.
