Pennsylvania in the ascendancy after posting strong set of July gambling figures

According to the latest published financial results, Pennsylvania continues to go from strength to strength, and the gambling scene is flourishing.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, which presides over all state casino and sports betting-related activities, announced the revenue figures for July, which passed the $ 467 million mark.

Since being given the green light to pass a gambling bill in 2017, Pennsylvania has enjoyed exponential growth, and they have hit their stride in 2023.

As you will see, Pennsylvania has become a hub for gambling, and whether it is retail or online, the state has become cherished by its residents and those further afield.

A super set of results

Gambling revenues are soaring, and the latest results make for a positive reading.

The Gaming Control Board announced that total gambling revenues in July, including all fantasy contests, reached $ 467,043,707. That marked an 8.85% increase compared to the same corresponding period 12 months ago.

The source of gaming revenue was split across many types, and intriguingly, the revenue figures were 6% higher than the $440.5m returned in June this year.

The only caution was that video gaming terminals continued to struggle. Revenue dropped by over 7% to $4.4m in July, but that shouldn’t detract from the feel-good vibes in Pennsylvania.

Slots are still shifting a lot of the money

It may not be a surprise that slots are doing a lot of the legwork, and the reels are shrilling with the sounds of copious amounts of money.

Yes, with more and more slots entering the market thanks to NetEnt, Playtech and Microgaming, Pennsylvania retail casinos are basking in the glory.

Retail slots contributed revenues of $214,668,942, up 0.36% from July 2022 ($213,902,072).

And in terms of gaming slot revenues, there was a very noticeable difference. A figure of $94,854,351 was recorded for July 2023, which was up by an astonishing 31.91% from July 2022 ($71,909,442), and this only serves to show how much of an impact slots have had on the casino business in Pennsylvania.

Table games have lost their way a bit, judging by their respective revenue figures.

Retail table revenues dropped by over 3% from $86,683,278 in July 2022 to $ 83,415,677 in July 2023.

But on the digital front, there was a significant uptake in online table games, with a 48% increase in revenues from July 2023 to July 2022. This summer, online casinos in Pennsylvania announced a figure of $35,365,772, which was remarkable.

Although online table games have pulled their weight, slots have made a huge splash, and clearly, it is an area that still carries a lot of interest among Pennsylvania gambling enthusiasts.

When we take a broader view of the casino scene in Pennsylvania, a few operators stand out.

More specifically, it has been a resounding success for slots. Despite seeing slots revenues drop by 1%, it still pulled in $33,314,777 for revenues in July 2023, while its nearest challenger — Wild Creek Bethlehem — could only rake in $25,269,699.

From the outset, Parx has been a go-to option for Pennsylvania residents, showing no signs of easing off anytime soon.

Final Thoughts

Given what we have seen of the Pennsylvania gambling scene, it certainly appears to be in robust health.

Naturally, there has been more of a shift over the past few months toward the digital casino scene, but that shouldn’t take anything away from or diminish the efforts of its land-based counterparts.

Slots, as might be expected, continue to be a big pull for gambling enthusiasts, and if they can keep the momentum, Pennsylvania could have a big second half of the year.

Pennsylvania may be more mature compared to other states when it comes to gambling, but it is still a big player, as judged by the casino revenue figures. This is something that shouldn’t be forgotten.
