We referred to the US Census Bureau’s 2022 population estimates for Michigan, Pennsylvania and New Jersey to provide a more accurate comparison. Then, we considered the population percentage of those aged 18 and up.

While the legal gambling age in Michigan is 21, the census data utilized the nearest available cutoff point at 18. This left the final numbers to be analyzed and considered for the study.

New Jersey led the race with an adult population of 7,270,434 and a reported 2023 online casino revenue of $1,085,978,182. This allowed New Jersey to reach $149.37 per average person.

Michigan came in second, with an adult population of 7,926,949 and revenues of $1,088,206,223, for $137.28 per average person.

Last, Pennsylvania took third place with a population of 10,351,662 and $1,163,246,580 in online casino revenue for $112.37 per average person.

With all the pieces in place, the final verdict is that New Jersey claims the crown for per capita revenue from online casinos, while Michigan secures a respectable second place.

It’s a dynamic landscape in online gambling, and Michigan’s performance underscores its prominent position in this rapidly evolving industry.

Michigan’s solid performance during its third year in the online casino industry is nothing to be disheartened about.

While it may have secured the second position in the recent gambling statistics, the fact that the average adult has contributed $137 in revenue to online casinos this year is undeniably impressive.

This achievement is even more remarkable because the online gambling industry in Michigan is a mere 31 months old at the time of this data.

In contrast, Pennsylvania embarked on its online gambling journey in July 2019, while New Jersey pioneered as early as November 2013. These states’ significant head start had allowed them to establish robust customer bases over time.

Additionally, experts have noticed another exciting facet when considering the number of online casino operators in each state. New Jersey offers over two dozen online casino operators, while Pennsylvania boasts a robust lineup of 21.

In contrast, Michigan’s offerings are comparatively more modest, with just 15 different online operators. Despite these factors, Michigan remains on a relentless upward trajectory within the online casino industry.

Month after month, it continues to raise the bar for itself. It has yet to plateau, and the future seems ripe with potential. Michigan’s aspirations go beyond simply outperforming Pennsylvania in overall revenue.

The state now aims to surpass New Jersey in average earnings generated per person. This determination to excel demonstrates the state’s dynamic presence and commitment to being a significant player in the ever-evolving online gambling landscape.
