Nevada Gaming Revenue Breaks the $1B Mark in August
In August, Nevada’s casinos reported gaming revenue of $1.21 billion, marking a slight 0.07% year-on-year increase. However, this figure represents a 14.3% decline compared to the previous month’s revenue of $1.4 billion, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB).
Clark County, encompassing the Las Vegas Strip, downtown Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, the Boulder Strip and surrounding regions, reported a total of $1.02 billion in revenue, representing a modest 0.18% increase. The famous Strip’s revenues reached $666.7 million, indicating a 1% year-on-year increase.
In Washoe County, which includes casinos in Reno, Sparks and North Lake Tahoe, revenue surged by 2% year-on-year.
Slot machines accounted for the majority of revenue at $829.2 million for the month, albeit this represented a 2.1% decrease from the previous year.
Multi-denomination slot games contributed $479.3 million, while penny slots brought in $256.9 million. Revenue from table, counter and card games saw a healthy increase of 5.2%, reaching $380.1 million.
Baccarat emerged as the top performer with $116.2 million, marking a substantial 21% growth from August 2022.
Sportsbook revenue reached $18.1 million, showing a 12.4% increase compared to the previous year. Mobile wagering accounted for $13.2 million, with a total handle of $431.3 million.
In September 2023, the state collected $75.7 million in percentage fees based on taxable revenues generated in August 2023. This amount represented a 6.97% decrease compared to the previous year, when percentage fee collections reached $81.3 million in September 2022.
In July, Nevada’s monthly financial report indicated a total gaming win of $1.4 billion. Washoe County Sparks experienced the most significant yearly growth that month, surging by 20% to $17.2 million.
Concurrently, Clark County casinos contributed the lion’s share of the monthly revenue, accounting for $1.21 billion of the total win, reflecting an 8% increase. Within Clark County, the Las Vegas Strip they stood out by generating $834.9 million in revenue, a 7% increase.
Conversely, the Clark County Mesquite Area experienced the most substantial decline in total wins, plummeting to $13.2 million, down by 7%, in July.
