Greece Considers Changes To Land-Based Gambling Space
The Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC), Greece’s gaming regulator, appears to be moving toward modern and sustainable gaming with its intended approach in a recently drafted proposal. Discussions in the HGC have considered implementing gaming codes to promote a more conscious gaming culture.
The new topics addressed in the proposal include a self-exclusion registry, unique player cards, and live dealer studio spaces. The HGC is preparing for several changes that could impact how Greek casinos are run.
This is all happening right after the regulator banned live streaming service Kick due to certain aspects of their overall gaming offer and content. Consistent with its intention to push players in the proper direction, the HGC is now ready to prioritize responsible gaming tactics and their expansion in the industry.
These recent proposals consider introducing individual player cards in addition to education and training programs for casino employees. The draft also includes the construction of a nationwide self-exclusion registry for players who wish to take a forced pause from their gaming and their streaks.
The self-exclusion register is one of the most interesting clauses in the proposal. The HGC would supervise this tactic and stands as one of the most muscular motions in the newly drafted regulations.
The regulating body would be required to compile detailed data on banned and self-banned players. This data would include essential stats such as the length of their suspension and the name of the licensee who submitted the request for their ban.
The new law code would allow players to choose their preferred self-exclusion time length. This time frame ranges from seven days to 10 months, or at least the time suggested in the proposal.
It would only be at the very end and after the full completion of the selected period that a lift on the ban would be feasible. The removal of the ban would then require a direct request from the player who filed for the self-exclusion process in the first place.
The same draft also includes the notion that every casino with a license ought to include a live studio for live dealer gaming activities. Operators would also need to install specific equipment in these live studios to be eligible for a green light to operate.
Individual player cards enable users to participate in physical casino games. These games would also be linked to their online player accounts. This modern approach allows a synchronized player gaming record to be created, serving as a medium to track all gaming activity.
Through various education and training programs overseen by training managers, licensed casinos may also be required to provide specialized training on the gaming rules that predominate in Greece.
