Just 48 hours following the appointment of a former Washington Commanders executive as Senior Vice President of Strategic Communications, the American Gaming Association (AGA) has chosen Michael Rumbolz as its incoming chairman.

Presently holding the position of Executive Chair on Everi Holdings’ board, Rumbolz is poised to take over the role from Jim Allen, the Chairman of Hard Rock International and CEO of Seminole Gaming.

The commencement of Rumbolz’s term as AGA chairman is scheduled for January 2024. With a dynamic professional journey described by the AGA as starting “from a busboy to the c-suite,” Rumbolz brings a diverse and extensive background to the table.

Rumbolz’s career has traversed various tiers and facets of the gaming sector, covering gaming equipment manufacturing and distribution and up to hotel and casino operations.

Rumbolz’s roles have also covered casino financial technology and have led Rumbolz to gain experience in compliance.

Among his noteworthy past roles, Rumbolz has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Everi Holdings. The newly appointed chairman has also held positions as a member and chair of the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Rumbolz steps into a pivotal role following Allen, who played a crucial part in the industry’s remarkable rebound post-COVID. Allen also contended with the ongoing battle against illegal gambling and set a solid pace for the industry to gear toward protectionism and regulation.

In his new capacity, Rumbolz takes on the responsibility of sustaining the current positive trajectory and fortifying the gaming sector.

Expressing humility and appreciation for the opportunity to shape the future of gaming, Rumbolz emphasized his commitment to making the right use of his position and strengthening the advancements achieved by his predecessor.

The new chairman highlighted the AGA’s focus on transformative issues, ranging from curbing illegal gambling to advancing responsible gaming practices.

Extending a warm welcome to the new addition, Bill Miller, the president and CEO of the AGA, lauded Rumbolz as an “industry legend in his own right.” He expressed unwavering confidence in Rumbolz’s extensive career, citing his multifaceted experience as an operator, manufacturer and regulator.

Miller emphasized the invaluable nature of Rumbolz’s skill set, underscoring its significance in propelling substantial advancements in key industry priorities.

Reflecting on Allen’s last steps as a chairman, Miller extended gratitude for his outstanding commitment and contributions that significantly amplified the AGA’s influence within the industry.

The CEO characterized the departing chair as a “trusted advisor” and expressed appreciation for the collaborative partnership they shared. In response, Allen shared his perspective, envisioning a transformative era for the industry under the leadership of Miller and Rumbolz.

Earlier this week, the AGA appointed former Commanders VP of Public Affairs and Strategic Communications Joe Maloney to be its SVP of Strategic Communications.
