American Gaming Association’s (AGA) board of directors chose Michael Rumbolz as the new chairman of the Association. Rumbolz is known as the Executive Chair of the Board of Everi Holdings Inc.

AGA published an official statement on its website on the 7th of December, revealing that Rumbolz starts his two-year term in January 2024.

He was quick to express his gratitude for getting the votes necessary to grant him the new position. Rumbolz stated that he was looking forward to shaping the industry’s future as the Association’s new chairman.

“From stopping illegal gambling to evolving responsible gambling, the AGA is tackling transformational issues,” Rumbolz highlighted. He added how he was eager to build on the progress made during his predecessor’s tenure.

Taking Over Jim Allen, Who Served His Two Years

Rumbolz will take over the prestigious role of Jim Allen, Chairman of Hard Rock International and CEO of Seminole Gaming. Allen has been AGA chairman since January 2022.

During Allen’s chairman term, the AGA backed the industry’s COVID recovery that set a record. At the same time, the Association was working to improve the industry’s method of promoting responsible gaming and starting a new initiative to end illegal activities.

Rumbolz’s career covers all levels and aspects of the gaming industry, from a busboy to the C-suite. He boasts experience in gaming equipment manufacturing and distribution, casino fintech, hotel and casino operations, digital gaming, and gaming legislation.

Rumbolz was formerly President and CEO of Everi, an established casino market player with over 1,400 employees. He was also a Member and Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board and the Chief Deputy Attorney General of Nevada.

AGA has given its new chairman a warm welcome, calling him “an industry legend in his own right.” Commenting on the move was AGA’s CEO and President Bill Miller. He highlighted Rumbolz’s career as “unparalleled” and reminded of his experience “as an operator, manufacturer, and regulator.”

Miller concluded that AGA and the industry have never been stronger and expressed his pride in the Association’s success.

Joe Maloney Joined AGA as Senior Vice President

Only a few days prior to breaking the news about Rumbolz, on the 5th of December 2023, AGA notified about another addition to its team. Namely, Joe Maloney joined the Association’s executive team and took the role of Senior Vice President, Strategic Communications.

Per the official AGA statement, Maloney will head the Association’s research, marketing, communications, and public affairs efforts to promote key goals for AGA members.

Maloney will also start working for the AGA in January 2024, just like Rumbolz.

He is leaving the Washington Commanders, where he was Vice President, Public Affairs and Strategic Communications. He led the team’s external outreach on various important policies and corporate projects.

Maloney guided the Commanders’ communications and legislative efforts on sports betting in Virginia and Maryland. His efforts led to its top-notch market access partnerships with FanDuel in Virginia and Fanatics in Maryland.

He also made the Washington Commanders the first NFL team to join AGA’s Have A Game Plan.® Bet Responsibly.™ public service campaign.

Before working for the Washington Commanders, Maloney was a partner at Locust Street Group (LSG), a comprehensive public affairs agency based in Washington, D.C. He headed the agency’s work on G2E and AGA’s Get to Know Gaming series.
