Delaware’s iGaming market booming thanks to BetRivers
Delaware’s online casino revenues soared to new heights in January, and they largely have BetRivers to thank for that.
After landing an exclusive five-year contract to become the Delaware Lottery’s iGaming partner last August, succeeding 888Holdings in the process, BetRivers launched its online casino and sports betting platform in Delaware in December.
In its first full month, BetRivers hit the ground running, indicating the partnership is yielding significant dividends.
Yes, Delaware’s online gross gaming (GGR) in January enjoyed a huge surge, rising to $3.4 million.
Compared to December, where iGaming revenues stood at $1.16 million, revenues climbed by a staggering 66% last month.
The January figure shattered the old single-month record set in March 2023 by 58.2% ($1.4 million).
Moreover, taxable revenue has seen a 16.5% uptick compared to the first seven months of the 2022/23 Fiscal Year.
This is remarkable given that the Delaware Lottery’s switch to BetRivers saw the loss of online poker games in the state, and it is unclear at this point as to when they will be restored.
The shiny effect of BetRivers can also be measured by some of the impressive numbers churned out in January:
- Registrations – 24,703 players signed up for BetRivers and figures were migrated from 888Holdings. Typically, 888Holdings registered less than 1,000 new monthly accounts.
- Wagering levels – $103,377,295 was wagered by BetRivers players online.
- $99,551,067 was returned to players.
Although gaming revenue at Delaware’s racinos experienced a downturn year-on-year, there was a silver lining in the figures.
Indeed, revenues generated from slots at the three racinos increased by 7.8% compared to the first seven months of the previous fiscal year.
BetRivers currently operates and holds licenses in five of the six states where iGaming is legal, apart from Connecticut.
Judging by the figures released, BetRivers made a huge splash, but perhaps January 2025 may be a better barometer to gauge the state of the Delaware iGaming market.
