Rhode Island recently signed a monopoly-based online gambling law that will take effect in April 2024, and now Colorado looks like a potential next stop for the slowly expanding industry.

This was confirmed by Colorado’s Department of Revenue Executive Director Mark Ferrandino at the National Conference of State Legislatures in Denver.

Ferrandino said, “Talks are underway about legalizing online casino gaming in the state.”

Not only is this an essential update for the potential players in the state, but in terms of taxes for the state, the online sports betting market has proven successful, bringing in over $441 million in June 2023 alone.

We must remember that talks have started, and there’s a long way to go. The State Legislature must pass legislation signed by the governor and voted on by residents.

If all this happens, retail casinos will apply for licenses and partner with online entities.

Colorado has shown to be a bit progressive with iGaming. There are 20 online sportsbooks, the second-most in the country, behind New Jersey, which has 22.

With these talks emerging, iGaming outlets are gearing up. It may seem premature, but there’s importance in this “gearing up” phase, and PlayStar co-founder and Chief Business Development Officer Adam Noble agrees.

PlayStar is a brand that’s committed to providing players in the US with a genuinely unique online casino experience – and by teaming up with GF Gaming in Colorado, we’re already looking ahead to how we can expand these plans into the next market when regulation allows

If Colorado launches online casino play, it’s safe to say it could have comparable to the amount of money Michigan and New Jersey take in, which included $156 million in May 2023.
